The Right Place Technical Notes

OK, so among other things I am a bit of a gearhead, and I am always curious about what kind of gear is used on recordings I like. This information is often pretty hard to come by, so I thought it would be fun to provide some details about the equipment we used to make The Right Place. Fellow Gearheads may enjoy this, the rest of you should probably check out the rest of the site…

No computers were used for this project. Ok, that’s not true, I did use the computer to burn test mix cds for us.
Recording was direct to tape from the preamps.
Most instrument and vocal tracks were recorded individually in my studio, with a few group takes. We recorded ‘I Stepped Out Once’ on the stage of the late lamented De La Luz/Templeball in Carrboro. The cello for that song was later recorded in my living room.
Other than that the whole recording process was pretty straightforward. Joe and I recorded the basic guitar and vocal tracks together to build on top of. Most of these original tracks were ultimately replaced, although some tracks from those original sessions (done in April 2004) made it on to the final release.
Thanks for listening!!
